—–Fishing this past week out of Island Discount Tackle on Anna Maria Island has been productive when the weather cooperates . The weather has been the deciding factor in where I have been fishing, typical for the winter time fishing pattern.
—–Dock fishing for redfish and black drum has been good with the fish feeding under deepwater docks with heavy barnacle growth as they will hold more crabs and crustaceans living on the pilings. Rigging with a live shrimp and a split shot weight will get the bait in the strike zone. On my recent trips we have had success with redfish in the upper slot range. Continue Reading…

—–With the passing of all the recent cold fronts ,the 55-59f water temperature, and the influx of the snowbirds the winter fishing pattern has arrived in full force . Taking advantage of what mother nature gives you can yield a nice creel of fish for fun action and a bag of fillets. Fishing out of Island Discount Tackle on Anna Maria island, redfish, sheep head ,mangrove snapper and black drum have made a strong appearance in our area.
—–Redfish of varying sizes from 12″rats to 30″ stumps been feeding under the deep water docks . Use a live shrimp rigged on a size 1 hook tied to a 30lb fluorocarbon leader with a size 5 or 7 split shot . Toss your bait with a side arm casting motion to get the bait deep underneath the dock .It is important to get the bait deep under the dock to where the predators are living. Wait for the thump of the fish chewing the bait and slowly lift your rod to feel the fish on and then set the hook.
—–Sheephead have been feeding heavily as they are starting to gather in big schools . Using the same rig as mentioned above, my recent charters have brought some 18″ convicts to the fillet table. Mangrove snapper and black drum are also coming to the party .
—–Looking forward the speckled trout fishing will start to turn on as the fish will school in deeper water and school in areas where the water temperature is a few degrees warmer. Until next time keep the slack out of your line and feel the thump of the predator inhaling your bait.

—–Fishing this past week out of Island Discount Tackle on beautiful Anna Maria island has produced a mixed bag of fish landed for the dinner table as well as some exciting tackle busting action.
—–With the heat of the Summer upon us, I have had to change my game plan up to be successful . The high water temperatures 85f+ on the flats have forced the fish out of the skinny water and into their deeper water haunts. Speckled trout are feeding in 3-8ft of water and will chew a variety of baits. I like to fish the deep grass areas of Tampa bay and the intracoastal waterway Locate the schools of slot fish and you should have no trouble getting your limit. Continue Reading…

—–Fishing this past week out of Island Discount Tackle at Keyes Marina on Anna Maria Island has been steady with some red hot action mixed in. Speckled trout, redfish and snook have been feeding when the current has been moving .
—–Speckled trout have been the go-to fish for some fillets for the dinner table and exciting action on the flats of Tampa Bay . Many gator trout were landed this past week on my recent charters. A lively shiner rigged on a 1/0 hook with a piece of 30 lb fluorocarbon leader under a popping cork has drawn many of these snaggle toothed predators to the dinner table. Make the old school bobbers pop and gurgle and the bait flash to draw the strikes. Continue Reading…
