—Josh Sato and Joey Mattay have the permit dialed in. They found May and early June to be an action-packed time period, with the nearby offshore wrecks and structure holding spawning fish. Joey and Josh said that the best way to pull off a catch of big permit was to drift baits back to the fish after anchoring up-current of structure within 20 miles of Anna maria Island.
—Small pass crabs were said to be the bait of choice, and they were most effective when suspended just above the targeted structure.
—This action may be slowing down as June draws to a close, but if you get a chance to try these techniques and hook into some big permit, be sure to HOLD ON TIGHT!
