—–Fishing over this last week or so out of Island Discount Tackle in Holmes Beach has been great. The wind has been less than July and live bait (shiners) has been easier to get.
—–We started on Wednesday, July 31st with a nice catch of redfish and snook. There was a high, outgoing tide from early morning through mid afternoon. This let us fish some mangrove shorelines before the water was too shallow.
—–Over the next few mornings, the tide was high but not moving very fast so I changed our strategy. We fished some rock piles in Tampa Bay for mackerel and then moved to some intracoastal waterway docks where we found some big, hungry flounder.
—–As the week went on, trout became the target species. We had good luck fishing some of the deeper grass flats south of Sisters Keys in Longboat Key. In the afternoons, we tried the Longboat Key bridge and caught some keeper mangrove snapper.
