The inshore bite is really starting to heat up around Anna Maria Island. The Mangroves are loaded with schools of snook, ranging from 20-40 inches. Once you get the school fired up it’s very possible to get rallys of 10-20 fish to the boat.
The Speckled Sea Trout bite seems to be coming around as well, targeting the sand holes on shallower Grass flats (3-4ft) seems to be producing good numbers of Trout from 15-19 inches. I like to fish a live shiner on a 1/0 Owner Mutu circle hook with 4 ft of 20 lb fluorocarbon leader behind a popping cork.
Alex and Mike from Michigan got to experience an incredible Redfish bite this week as well. Fish ranging from 28-30 inches were caught and released to fight another day. We are hoping that this warming trend continues so we can continue having countless fish days. Come see us at Island Discount Tackle for all of your charter fishing and tackle needs, Catch em up!
