Flounder (Paralichthys dentatus)
- Size: Gulf flounder come in a range of sizes, with the larger individuals reaching lengths of up to 24 inches or more.
- Habitat: Flounder are bottom-dwelling flatfish often found in shallow coastal waters, estuaries, and bays. They prefer sandy or muddy substrates, where they can easily bury themselves to hide.
- Bait: Flounder feed on a diet of small fish, crustaceans, and invertebrates and are ambush predators, lying in wait for their prey to swim by. They are usually caught on live shrimp or greenbacks, but soft plastic jigs work very well too.
- Tackle: Flounder are found on the bottom, so a weighted line on light-medium spinning gear is used.
- Food Value: Flounder are found on seafood menus all over the world for a reason – their meat is considered a delicacy.
