—So far, February has been a paradox of warm, sunny days and blustery cold temperatures. However, in the face of this less than ideal weather pattern, the inshore/nearshore bite is gathering steam. We really started hammering the big spawning sheepshead around the beginning of the month. Almost any of the public inshore/nearshore reefs will be holding nice sheepies this month.
—Redfish, black drum, and flounder have been a staple around inshore residential docks and canals. Live shrimp as well as jigs such as the gulp shrimp have been top producers.
—Pompano and permit remain hit or miss so far this month. Probing the edges of deeper grass flats, or the local passes and adjoining beachfront, with a 1/4oz. pompano jig tipped with a chunk of shrimp has been the ticket.
