The prefrontal bite was outstanding this week around Anna Maria Island, Barry and family enjoyed a countless day of catch and release Snook and Jack Crevalle along the deep Mangrove shorelines. Barry had the hot rod this trip boating a 30 inch Redfish, this was also his first Red he had ever caught, what a trophy it was. After we had our fill of Snook fishing we headed to the deep grass flats to put some Speckled Sea Trout in the cooler for dinner. We managed a 2 man limit of nice trout ranging from 15-19 inches in length, perfect for the grill.
Later in the week we were hit with another late cold front that produced significant winds, this making it tough to gather bait and finding our way out of the wind. Despite the harsh conditions our guest still managed a great Snook bite back in the bushes, boating around 30 or so fish.. My favorite way to catch these fish is with live bait, Watching these feisty fish blow up on live Pilchards is such a thrill. A 5ft 30lb. Fluorocarbon Leader with a 1/0 Owner Mutu circle hook is the rig I like to use.
Whether you are a local or here on vacation now is the time to book a fishing charter, the spring bite we are having is great. You can reserve you trip by coming into Island Discount Tackle or just get geared up for all of your fishing and boating needs. The following weeks weather looks great, CATCH EM’ UP!
