—Yesterday, tarpon were being caught in the passes and along the beaches of Anna Maria Island, Egmont Key, and Tampa Bay. The fish have been eating best during moving tides, and will take dead or live thread fin herring or live crabs.

—Heavy tackle is the key to landing these strong and acrobatic fish, with 50 pound braid, a long 80 pound leader, and a 7/o circle hook necessary to get the job done.

—Now that the tarpon have finished spawning and the large female fish have moved back into nearshore waters, it is not uncommon to hook 100+ pounders consistently.

—Tight Lines!
