—–Hot summer days are a good time to catch redfish around Anna Maria Island. If the tide is high and falling fast, we might try the potholes away from the shoreline as the reds move to deeper water and wait for the tide to push dinner their way. If the tide is high, you can try right against the mangrove shoreline. On high water or on windy days, the boat docks might hold some redfish.
—–I recently fished with Michael and Laura from Valrico, FL (pictured) and we had a great day catching redfish. We caught over a dozen nice fish, the largest being over 36 inches. We were using live shiners sometimes and we also caught some beautiful fish using a 1/8 ounce jighead rigged with a Berkley Gulp 3” shrimp. Have fun!
