—June has been hot, rainy, and action-packed.
—Tarpon are running full-bore right now, and mangrove snapper are plentiful nearshore. We have had the most success with tarpon while sight-casting at first light near the beaches, and then anchoring and chumming them to the boat as the morning progresses.
—Mangrove snapper have been consistently on shallow structure and debris, where they sometimes can be chummed into a frenzy. If so, light line and small hooks can lead to every-cast action.
Longtime Tampa residents from Philadelphia, PA; Gavin, Kieren, and Ray Hyer put a hurting’ on the mangrove snapper this morning! Great job guys! (pics below)
