Even with some weather around we still managed a great week of fishing here on Anna Maria Island.  Late Spring is a great time of the year for inshore fishing, we caught everything from Redfish, Snook, Flounder, Sea Trout, Spanish Mackerel, and a few other species on our charters.     With water temperatures warming up the fishing is hot. We are catching lots of Snook, Trout, Mackerel, and the occasional Redfish and Flounder inshore. The Kingfish are showing up offshore and we get the chance to catch them if the weather permits. They are ranging from 15 to 30 lbs. Come and book your trip to get in on the action!

The weather was beautiful here on Anna Maria Island this week with temperatures climbing into the 80s. With the warming trend came a fantastic inshore bite, we caught everything swimming in the bay. The Snook bite has been absolutely incredible with some trips boating 60-80 fish. While Snook fishing we are also picking up a couple catch and release Redfish that really give a good bend to the rod. After my crew decides they have had enough fun with the Snook we head to the deeper grass flats to see if we can get a few fish for the cooler.

The prefrontal bite was outstanding this week around Anna Maria Island, Barry and family enjoyed a countless day of catch and release Snook and Jack Crevalle along the deep Mangrove shorelines. Barry had the hot rod this trip boating a 30 inch Redfish, this was also his first Red he had ever caught, what a trophy it was. After we had our fill of Snook fishing we headed to the deep grass flats to put some Speckled Sea Trout in the cooler for dinner. We managed a 2 man limit of nice trout ranging from 15-19 inches in length, perfect for the grill. Continue Reading…

Finally graced with some outstanding weather here on Anna Maria Island, and the fishing is right there with it. Mike Marshall and Ben had a great trip this week, We started the morning off chasing Snook around the mangroves and boy did they have their fill. We boated around 50 fish between the crew and ranging in size from 20-30 inches. The rise in water temperature really has the Snook excited, our best bite seems to be coming on live Pilchards hooked on 1/0 Owner Mutu Circle hook with a 5 foot leader of 20lb fluorocarbon. We endured another cold front here on Anna Maria Island, which dropped the water temps back down into the low 60s. This making the bite slow down a bit, so we went back to shrimp fishing for Sheephead and Black Drum. The bite was a little bit slow first thing in the morning but by 10 am the sheephead decided to eat and our charters were able to pick off enough convicts for a nice fish fry. Continue Reading…

The inshore bite is really starting to heat up around Anna Maria Island. The Mangroves are loaded with schools of snook, ranging from 20-40 inches. Once you get the school fired up it’s very possible to get rallys of 10-20 fish to the boat. Continue Reading…

—The water temperature is up, and snook are on fire!

—After fishing mostly docks for the past few weeks, it is nice to be able to fish the grass flats again.  With the water temperature getting over 70 degrees, the spring bite is on.  Snook are out in numbers and are aggressively attacking everything we throw at them. Continue Reading…

We are in full blown winter mode here at Keyes Marina. The sheepshead bite has been steady, but due to the dropping of water temperature we have to really slow down and be patient for our bites.

Matt Danziger and fiance Hayley of Anna Maria Island with a nice Sheep Head for fish tacos.

I find that dropping down to 15lb fluorocarbon leader, with a #2 Owner SSW bait hook, and a #4 split shot. The bait of choice for me is half of a fresh shrimp. Just enough to hide the hook. This approach seems to be working best casting to deeper docks around Anna Maria Island.

The Sea Trout bite has been hit or miss lately, but when we do catch them they have been nice fish up to 22 inches. these guys are great on the grill! Just like the sheep head bite, you just have to slow down and be patient on the bites. A popping cork and 20 lb leader with a 1/0 Owner Mutu circle hook rigged with a LIVE SHRIMP over the grass flats has been the right choice for us.

With more weather ahead of us we are just hoping for a few decent days to get out wet a line. I think I speak for everyone when I say bring on the Spring! Until next week, tight lines.

—Things are still too hot to be very productive in the backwater areas, but nearshore action has stayed exciting.

—Snapper, grouper, sharks, and the occasional cobia have been biting on the reefs, although getting our catch past the goliath grouper and barracuda is always a challenge.

—Small sardines have begun to show off of the beaches, which has lead to bonito and mackerel action. We just follow the diving birds and cast live pilchards into the fray when we find an active school of fish.
